The EMU soundcard came with lots of bundled software, including lite versions of Sonar and Cubase and lots of VST plugins. Since I was previously using Cakewalk's Home Studio I went with Sonar, and it's a major step up from Home Studio. This version of Sonar has an adapter that lets you use VST plugins as well as Sonar's native DXI plugins, and the new hardware is more than capable of running Reason 2.5, Sonar, and a number of VST instrument and effect plugins. Amplitube and SFX Machine VST plugins were bundled with the soundcard. I like to use some of the effects on SFX Machine and use the amp and/or speaker simulations on Amplitube when I'm too lazy to wait for the Blues Junior to warm up (which is most of the time). While I used to record the amp miked with a Shure SM 57, I recently got a Behringer Ultra DI box to record direct.
